Students at Cheektowaga HS read Literacy with an Attitude

I visited  Kristen Pastore Capuana’s class at Cheektowage High School yesterday.  It’s an AP education class where students can register for credit at The University at Buffalo.  I’ve visited a half dozen college classes that have read Literacy with an Attitude, and the conversation at Cheektowaga HS compared well with those in colleges.  I hope we can keep the conversation going on this Forum.  PJF

It's time to move on to CSS layouts, I have admitted this fact and going to focus on it after my IT related projects such as linux web hosting and the unix web hosting at the last but not least frontpage web hosting. Lets go jump into the stream of wisdom.

Students reading Literacy with an Attitude

I teach English and Pre-AP English at a low socioeconomic school in Texas. I am forever at odds with the administration who set such low expectations for our students based on their economic status and cultureal background. I tell my wife I cannot leave the district because these kids need someone pushing them for more--that has been the effect of your book on me. The idea of assigning the book as reading for my students had not occured to me before. If I get the kids involved in the conversation, maybe more change can happen. My Pre-AP can expect a new reading assignment next year!

Thanks for the fantastic argument in the book!
